Abstract: The aim of this study was to follow-up the physiological variations in the development of the bone tissue, associating them with the egg production curve. This study was carried out in the facilities of the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia of the UNESP, Botucatu, Brazil. Twenty-three families of Ross broiler breeders were used, each family consisting of 13 females and 1 male, distributed in 23 pens of 5.0m² each. The management was that recommended by the genetic company manual (Agroceres Ros… Show more

“…The quality of the eggshell, which not only determines the safety of production, but also affects the hatching rate of eggs (Wolc et al., 2012). As the laying hen ages, egg shells become thinner due to the increased egg weight and decreased endogenous bone calcium (Akbari Moghaddam Kakhki, Heuthorst, Heuthorst, Mills, Neijat, & Kiarie, 2019; Almeida Paz et al., 2006). ALA can regenerate vitamin E, which plays a key role in alleviating oxidative stress, promoting growth and improving calcium and phosphorus metabolism (Konieczka et al., 2017; Rehman et al., 2018; Sanders & Edwards, 1991).…”

“…According to Almeida et al (2006), the lower rate of egg hatching among older breeders can be explained by the poorer quality of the shell, which results in a high rate of embryo mortality.…”
