Abstract: The extent of bone remodelling under metal fixation plates attached to bone by (i) normal screw fixation and (ii) bone ingrowth into a porous metallic surface underlayer sintered to the metal plate was investigated. Extensive bone remodelling was observed under the integrally bonded porous surface layered plate.
