Bond Strength of Resin Cements to Zirconia Ceramic Using Adhesive Primers

Abstract: Metal-Zirconia Primer increased the bond strength of Multilink Automix resin cement to zirconia, but no effect was observed for Alloy Primer using Clearfil SA Cement. RelyX ARC showed the lowest bond strength to zirconia.

“…This group with the highest strength exhibited mixed failure in 60% of the specimenss. Despite the shortcomings of SBS testing, 2,10,11,[14][15][16][22][23][24] this test can be used to screen adhesive materials and to find a correlation between different methods. 35,38 Although the sample size had not been calculated before the study, postpower analysis assessed the sufficiency of the sample size.…”

“…In fact, comparable SBS values (MPa) of 15.3 and 15.7 (P>0.5) were found for [C-LP] and [S_50-LR] groups, respectively. While sandblasting is a physical/mechanical conditioning process, genuine chemical bond is another way of achieving and promoting adhesion between luting agents and indirect restorative materials [29,30]. Some specific molecules and/or their associations -like silane and the functional phosphate monomer MDP (10methacryloyloxydecyl-dihydrogen phosphate) -in the composition of the universal adhesive system (Scotchbond Universal™) might explain the satisfactory SBS values obtained within LR groups, regardless the air abrasion process.…”
