Biomass Sourcing and Logistics: From Theory to Practice

Abstract

Renewable raw materials are increasingly utilized as primary energy or converted to solid, gaseous or liquid secondary fuels. Biomass sourcing and logistics is a key consideration when striving to successful industrial scale operation. Many studies in theory show sufficient biomass potentials and also address logistics. In reality, expert knowledge is required for a sound biomass procurement strategy when making investment decisions. This study demonstrates how sustainable biomass chains are evaluated for commercial plants considering all aspects of cost, risk, and partnerships in global view while also keeping in mind the local site specific operations.
