Biological Activities of Hydrazone Derivatives in the New Millennium

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Hydrazones are present in many of the bioactive heterocyclic compounds that are of wide interest because of their diverse biological and clinical applications. This created interest in researchers who have synthesized variety of hydrazone derivatives and screened them for their various biological activities viz. anticonvulsant, antidepressant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet, antimalarial, antimicrobial, antimycobacterial, anticancer, vasodialator, antiviral, antischistosomiasis, anti-HIV, … Show more

“…They are known to possess a broad spectrum of biological activities such as antioxidant, analgesic, antiplatelet, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, antidepressant, anti-inammatory, anti-tubercular, cardio protective, anti-HIV, anthelmintic, anti-diabetic, trypanocidal and anticancer activities. [1][2][3][4][5][6] Many of these compounds were patented in this respect. 7 Monohydrazide derivatives of carbonic and thiocarbonic acid, semicarbazide and thiosemicarbazide, respectively react with N-heteroaromatic carbonyl compounds giving (thio)semicarbazones -molecules well described as tridentate NNO(S) chelators and ribonucleotid reductase (RR) inhibitory agents.…”

“…Hydrazones and hydrazides are currently a significant class of therapeutically active compounds. 2,3 The suitable intermediates are produced by the heterocyclic hydrazone compounds like thiazolidin-4-one 4 or 1, 3-benzothiazin-4-one. 5 Hydrazones can act as polydentate ligands, depending on the nature of the attached group of hydrazone substituent.…”

“…Iproniazid, like isoniazid is used in the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) and also showed antidepressant effect. Another effective hydrazidehydrazones is nifuroxazide, which is used as an intestinal antiseptic (Negi et al, 2012;Rollas and Kucukguzel. 2007).…”
