Biodiesel Production from a Naturally Grown Green Algae Spirogyra Using Heterogeneous Catalyst: An Approach to RSM Optimization Technique

Abstract: The present study focuses on oil extraction and biodiesel production from naturally grown green Spirogyra algae. Solvent oil extraction and oil expeller techniques were used to extract the Spirogyra algae oil (SALO), and the oil yields were compared to identify the most productive method. Using chicken eggshell waste (CESW) heterogeneous catalyst (HC) was prepared for the production of Spirogyra algae oil biodiesel (SALOBD). Furthermore, Box–Behnken (BB) assisted response surface method (RSM), an optimisation … Show more

“…The production of biodiesel, which serves as a substitute for fossil fuels for engines and is produced from renewable feedstocks, involves the utilization of a wide variety of methods (Kolakoti et al, 2022;Siregar, 2015). As a potential solution to the issues of environmental degradation and rising emissions of greenhouse gases, biodiesel has recently come to the forefront of the discussion (Kalyani et al, 2023). Transesterification is a chemical reaction that involves the exchange of ester groups between an ester compound and an alcohol (Elma et al, 2017).…”

“…This emission decrease contributes to initiatives to mitigate climate change and attain net zero emissions. Biodiesel is a renewable energy source obtained from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, algae and recycled cooking oil (Hoang et al, 2022;Kalyani et al, 2023;Ruiz et al, 2021). We may lessen our dependency on fossil fuels and the pollution connected with them by adopting biodiesel.…”
