Plant Protect Sci., 53: 232-242.In search for botanicals as an alternative remedy to synthetic chemicals in the pest control of tea plantations, ferns such as adiantum raddianum, asplenium aethiopicum, Cyclosorus interruptus, dicranopteris linearis, diplazium polypodioides, and Pteridium aquilinum were evaluated against the two major pests of tea, red spider mite Oligonychus coffeae Nietner and tea mosquito bug Helopeltis theivora Waterhouse, which are the foremost seasonal pests in tea fields, causing severe crop loss. Apart from synthetic chemicals, only the neem kernel extract is recommended in tea fields. The aqueous extracts of ferns were screened at different concentrations against these pests under laboratory and field conditions. The extracts of P. aquilinum and d. linearis showed good contact toxicity at a 5% concentration to O. coffeae. The acaricidal activity was observed in the order P. aquilinum > d. linearis > C. interruptus > a. raddianum > d. polypodioides > a. aethiopicum. Under field conditions, the extract of d. linearis and P. aquilinum showed a 50% reduction in the population of red spider mite and caused no phytotoxic effect to tea leaves. But their insecticidal activity was less pronounced against H. theivora. They exhibit antifeedant activity, which was sustained only for 24 hours. The photochemical screening of extracts showed a qualitatively increased level of saponins in P. aquilinum, d. linearis, and C. interruptus. RESUMO:No Brasil, a lagarta-do-cartucho Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) é uma praga importante do milho e de outras espécies cultivadas, incluindo cultivos hortícolas, soja, arroz e algodão. Inseticidas botânicos são considerados uma opção interessante para o manejo de S. frugiperda, especialmente em sistemas de produção orgânica, e derivados de Annonaceae constituem uma fonte promissora destes. Diante desse potencial, o efeito do extrato etanólico de sementes de Annona mucosa -ESAM (Annonaceae) no desenvolvimento e comportamento alimentar de S. frugiperda foi avaliado através de bioensaios de exposição em meio artificial (ingestão). ESAM reduziu a viabilidade das fases larval e pupal e o peso de pupa bem como provocou um aumento na duração da fase larval de S. frugiperda. Além disso, ESAM também causou um aumento na proporção de pupas e adultos com alterações morfológicas. Entretanto, ESAM não causou efeito deterrente de alimentação para lagartas de quarto ínstar de S. frugiperda, embora esse extrato tenha ocasionado um decréscimo significativo no consumo ao longo do tempo (toxicidade pós-ingestão).Palavras-chave: inseticidas botânicos, lagarta-do-cartucho, acetogeninas, efeitos subletais. Extraction of matrine from soil with matrix solid‐phase dispersion by molecularly imprinted polymers derived from lignin‐based Pickering emulsions

Molecularly imprinted polymers prepared by Pickering emulsion method with lignin as stable particle were used as dispersants in matrix solid-phase dispersion, followed by ultra high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry to research the degradation behavior of matrine in soil. The molecularly imprinted polymers have regular morphology and uniform particles. Moreover, the adsorption experiments and the conditions of matrix solid-phase dispersion were discussed. With the optimal conditions of matrix solid-phase dispersion, the recoveries of matrine were 95.4-98.2%, relative standard deviations were 0.6-5.1%, and the detection limit was 5 ng/g. Moreover, the degradation behavior of matrine in soil was researched, it indicated the half-life of matrine was 2.7-3.2 days, and it was an environmentally friendly botanical pesticide. The method was successfully applied to separate and analyze matrine in soil samples can decrease analysis time, save organic solvents, and improve the selectivity.
