Bifunctional circularly-polarized lenses with simultaneous geometrical and propagating phase control metasurfaces

Abstract: Achieving different and arbitrary phase distributions for left-handed (LH) and right-handed (RH) circularly polarized (CP) waves, especially in transmission cases, is very important in designing CP lenses. Here, a strategy to control the propagating and geometrical phases simultaneously and independently is proposed by using a four-layered element. The element is a perfect transparent half wavelength plate, which controls the propagating phase by changing the structural size at both orthogonal polarizations an… Show more

“…2) The Artificial MM Decoupling Scheme [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]: As common types of MMs, the electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure and split ring resonator (SRR), have been widely used in MIMO system for antenna isolation. In [17], the EBG structures were integrated with antennas to suppress mutual coupling between two patches with an edge separation (edgeto-edge separation) of 0.75λ0.…”

“…An alternative for a beamforming array antenna is proposed by introducing MTM that is economical and simpler [29]. By implementing unit cell of four-layer metallic patches, the design of arbitrary bifunctional CP meta-devices was introduced [30]. The unit cell spectrum and the range are being curbed and make the complexity of fabricating and implementing in antennas to achieve the narrow frequency band.…”

“…The possibility to acquire arbitrary values of effective permittivity and permeability has led to amazing functionalities like invisible cloaking and perfect lensing . To control the amplitude and phase of the incident electromagnetic wave, several metasurface‐based approaches are reported in literature . In addition to these exotic applications, metasurfaces have led to diverse applications such as absorber, polarization converter, and isolator over the past few years.…”
