“…Dapsone was chosen since it has been used effec tively to control immunological disorders such as classical DH, pemphigoid [C horzelski and J ablonska, 1975; van der M eer, 1969; P ia m ph o n g sa n t ei al. 1976; Stone, 1974], pemphigus [Piam ph o n g sa n t, 1976] and vasculitis [Cream el al., 1971], It has been also effective in other vesiculo-bullous erup tions such as subcorneal pustular dermatosis (Sneddon-Wilkinson disease), generalized pustular psoriasis [M a c M illan and C h a m pio n , 1973], and benign familial chronic pemphigus [Sire and Johnson, 1971], Similar cases have also been successfully controlled by dapsone at our Institute. The mechanism of action in these diseases is not known, but it could act by inhibiting lysosomal enzymes [Barranco, 1974;M ier and H u r k , 1975].…”

“…Since then, the therapeutic response of a bullous dermatosis to dapsone has often been considered as a diagnostic criterion in these conditions. However, dapsone has also been shown to be effective in a number of other processes such as: allergic vasculitis [8,9]; erythema elevatum diutinum [10,11]; generalized pustular psoriasis [12], benign familial pemphigus [13] and in bullous pemphigoid as well [14]. The mechanism of action of sulfones in these disorders is as yet unknown.…”
