“…Most authors consider lichen sclerosus of the penis synonymous with balanitis xerotica obliterans, 27 but balanitis xerotica obliterans may be a consequence of other fibrosing dermatoses, such as lichen planus and cicatricial pemphigoid. The cause of lichen sclerosus remains unknown, but infection 28 or a response to injury (Koebner phenomenon) 29 has been postulated. There is an association with autoimmune disease, including vitiligo and alopecia areata, 30 and 2 patients in our study presented with genital lichen sclerosus and vitiligo.…”
