“…These hairs (length 119.3 ± 10.4 nm) are highly stable, as they did not dissociate from the phage tails during a 1½ year of storage at 4°C. Only two other phages have been reported to possess these hairy features; these being Escherichia coli phage PhAPEC6 (Tsones, 2014) and an unpurified phage observed in a preparation of crushed silkworm larvae referred to as X particle (Ackermann et al, 1994). Other than CBB having the whiskers, its morphology is typical of the Rak2-like phages in that it has a very large head with a comparatively short tail (Drulis-Kawa et al, 2014).…”

“…The next-largest phages with seemingly secure dimensions are phages P10 of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris , PA5oct, GAP32 of Cronobacter sakazakii , coliphage 121Q, and an entity called the X particle that was observed in the fluid of crushed silkworm larvae and never propagated [16]. Fig.…”

“…It was isolated by S. Basavarajappa and C. Savanurmath from a homogenate of diseased silkworms ( Bombyx mori ) collected from various areas within Karnataka State, India, and is a host for the giant phage, PAU (1). The isolate was originally classified as Pseudomonas paucimobilis (1), but it was reclassified as Sphingomonas paucimobilis strain HER1398 by the Félix D’Hérelle Reference Center.…”
