“…Rates of positive culture of inline filters in a variety of settings have been reported in the range of 2.8 to 29.1% (Gill 1984). In an Intensive Care Unit, and using a similar method, Quercia et al (1986) detected a contamination level of 14% after only 24 hours use, with at least one contaminated filter from each patient during the study period. This compares closely to 3/18 (16.6%) of filters removed after 24 hours in this study .…”
