Multiple antibiotic resistant Escherichia coli meningitis in a premature neonate

“…The usual duration of therapy for meningitis is a minimum of 21 days. However, most of the time, the duration of therapy is individualized and varies between 3-6 weeks [38][39][40]. In our case with antibiotic resistance and undrained subdural empyema collections, a 6-week course of therapy after negative cultures was considered optimal after consultation with the pediatric infectious disease service.…”

“…Early diagnosis and effective treatment have led to a significant decrease in these complications. All infants with meningitis should undergo careful follow-up examinations, including testing for hearing loss and neurologic deficits [33,35,38,39].…”
