Backreacting flavors in the Klebanov-Strassler background

Abstract: In this paper we present new analytic solutions of pure Type IIB supergravity plus D7branes describing the addition of an arbitrary number of flavors to the Klebanov-Tseytlin and Klebanov-Strassler backgrounds. We provide a precise field theory dual and a detailed analysis of the duality cascade which describes its RG flow. Matchings of beta functions and anomalies between the field theory and the string setup are presented. We give an understanding of Seiberg duality as a large gauge transformation on the RR … Show more

“…When µ q /m q → ∞ the meson masses coincide with those obtained for the massless flavored model of [23]. We can use the WKB formulas (F.14) and (F. 20) for the spectrum at the endpoints of the renormalization group flow to estimate the variation generated in the meson masses by changing the sea quark mass m q and switching on and off gradually the screening effects. It is interesting to point out that, within the WKB approximation, the ratio of these masses only depends on the number of flavors, and is given by:…”

“…Therefore, this approach is valid in the so-called Veneziano limit [18], in which both N and N f are large and their ratio N f /N is fixed. The smearing procedure was successfully applied to obtain supergravity solutions that include flavor backreaction in several systems [19][20][21] (see [22] for a detailed review and further references).…”

“…Many of the symmetry properties of the theory were reproduced and the running gauge coupling correctly matches gauge theory expectations. These methods were extended to the general SU (N ) × SU (M ) theory in [118]. Again symmetry properties and the running gauge coupling of the field theory were correctly reproduced on the gravity side.…”

“…The Landau pole argument, on the other hand, reflects an integrated number of degrees of freedom over some region in the throat. Flavor symmetries can be obtained by adding D7 branes in the Klebanov-Strassler throat, and solutions have been found for backreacting smeared flavor branes [41]. For our purposes, it is enough to consider probe branes, and to simply use an approximate metric:…”
