Average Current-Mode Control for a Quadratic Buck Converter

Abstract: In this paper, a methodology for controller design of a quadratic buck converter is given using average currentmode control. This scheme employs an inner loop that uses the average current of the first inductor and an outer loop that senses the output voltage for feedback purposes. Thus, a procedure is developed for the proper selection of: (a) the current gain for the inner loop, and (b) PI-controller for the outer loop. The design-oriented analytic results allow the designer to easily pinpoint the control ci… Show more

“…A buck-type DC-DC converter circuit is employed as the control. When the amount of solar radiation varies, buck converters are used to stabilize solar panel output so that the proper voltage level can be attained to charge the accumulator [7], [8]. It requires a tool to improve solar cell efficiency as a result of these issues.…”

“…These right-half-plane zeros makes the system more sluggish and the conventional current control methods are not appropriate for improving dynamic performance of the converter. In addition, average current mode control method (Carbajal-Gutierrez et al, 2005) may not be suitable for higher order topologies. Generally, the state space averaging method is used for small-signal modelling of DC-DC converters in average current mode control and the higher order dynamics are omitted.…”

“…Carbajal-Gutierrez [6] proposed an average current-mode control for quadratic buck converter. The control scheme requires the inner current control loop bandwidth very much higher than the outer voltage control loop bandwidth.…”
