This descriptive exploratory study analyzed user satisfaction with the care received at a Family Health Unit in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. In total, 40 users from families registered in the FHU were selected, using key informants and the snowball sampling technique, and interviewed.Thematic content analysis was used to analyze the empirical material. Interviewees were mostly female, over 50 years, resident in the catchment area of the unit for 10-30 years, had incomplete primary education and also did not perform work outside the home. The analysis identified three themes: access, team-user interaction and organization of work in the FHU.The subjects of this study expressed satisfaction with the accessibility provided together with the caring attention given to them, marked by a team-user interaction that takes place in a friendly and patience manner. Although not totally satisfied, the majority of users would recommend the health service to someone due to its quality. La asistencia en la Salud de la Familia bajo la perspectiva de los usuarios Este estudio exploratorio y descriptivo analizó la satisfacción del usuario en lo que se refiere a la atención recibida en una unidad de Salud de la Familia(USF) en Ribeirao Preto-SP, Brasil. Fueron entrevistados 40 usuarios de familias registradas por la USF, seleccionadas por informantes clave y muestreo por bola de nieve. El análisis temático de contenido se utilizó para analizar el material empírico. Los entrevistados son mayoritariamente mujeres, con más de 50 años, residentes en el área de alcance de la unidad, entre 10 y 30 años, tienen enseñanza primaria incompleta y no ejercían trabajo fuera del domicilio. El análisis identificó tres temas: acceso, interacción equipo-usuario y organización del trabajo en la USF. Los sujetos del estudio expresaron satisfacción con la accesibilidad desde que vinculada a la atención cuidadosa que recibían, marcada por una interacción equipo-usuario amigable y paciente. RESUMOIntrodução: A avaliação da qualidade dos serviços de saúde sob a ótica dos pacientes com epilepsia (PCE) pode ser uma ferramenta importante para organização e promoção do sistema de saúde. Objetivos: Avaliar e apresentar alguns aspectos sobre a satisfação do PCE com os serviços de saúde: satisfação geral, grau de informação sobre epilepsia e sua comunicação oferecida pelos profissionais de saúde, preferências pelo atendimento no setor primário ou pelo hospitalar, acessibilidade às consultas, eficácia do tratamento (freqüência das crises epilépticas) e medidas de melhoria do serviço com enfoque no uso de enfermeiras especializadas em epilepsia. Métodos: Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática baseada em artigos selecionados segundo os objetivos e captados nos bancos bibliográficos Pubmed e Science Direct. Resultados: Na maioria dos estudos, foram encontradas avaliações no geral positivas ao atendimento. No entanto, em quase todos existem críticas específicas, como a falta de comunicação, atendimento não compartilhado pelo setor primário e especializado, acessibilidade deficiente às consultas e a falta de continuidade do tratamento. Conclusão: Na tentativa de prover uma melhoria do atendimento aos PCE é fundamental conhecer as suas perspectivas, percepções, preferência e necessidades.Unitermos: Epilepsia, paciente, satisfação, perspectiva, visões, necessidades, avaliação dos serviços de atenção à saúde. Introduction: The evaluation of the quality of the health care under the patients with epilepsy (PWE) view can be an important tool for the organization and promotion of the health care system. Objective: To evaluate and to present some aspects of the of the PWE satisfaction regarding the health care system services: general satisfaction, degree of information about epilepsy and its communication offered by the health care workers, preferences for the service in the primary health care or for the hospital care, accessibility to the consultations, effectiveness of the treatment (frequency of the epileptic seizures) and measures of improvement of the service with focus in the specialized nurses' work in epilepsy. Methods: A systematic review was carried out based on papers searched according to the objectives and obtained in the bibliographical banks Pubmed and Science Direct. Results: In most of the studies, they were found evaluations in the general positive to the services. However, in almost all specific criticisms exist, as the communication lack, services not shared by the primary and specialized health care, insufficient accessibility to the consultations, and the lack of continuity of the treatment. Conclusion: In the attempt of providing an improvement of the service to PWE is fundamental to know their perspectives, perceptions, preference and needs.

OBJECTIVE:To identify type of service, frequency, and individual patient determinants associated with diagnostic test ordering in medical appointments. METHODS:A population-based study included 3,100 adults aged 20 years or older, living in the city of Pelotas, Southern Brazil. Sampling was carried out in multiple stages. Information were collected by means of a questionnaire, administered between October and December 2003. Multivariate analyses were carried out using Poisson Regression, based on a conceptual model. A sub-study was also conducted based on the test requests received during one workday in all laboratories in the city processing requests from both the public and private sectors. RESULTS:Fifty-five percent of subjects reported having had medical appointments during the three-month period investigated. Of these, 60% reported more than one appointment, generating a total of 4,167 appointments, most of which were paid for by health plans (38%). Diagnostic test were requested in 55% of appointments. Women and diabetic patients were more likely to have tests ordered. The greater the age (p<0.001) the higher the socioeconomic level (p=0.04), and the number of medical appointments (p<0.001), the greater the proportion of appointments leading to test requests. Mean waiting time between test request and sample collection was six days for the private sector and 21 days for the public sector (p<0.001). The mean number of tests per request was 4.4. CONCLUSIONS:The proportion of appointments leading to the request for some type of diagnostic test was in accordance with Brazilian recommendations. The waiting time before sample collection indicates an excessive number of tests per request and/ or insufficient financial resources to fulfill the demand for tests.
