Autoradiographic localization of 3H-?-aminobutyric acid uptake in the lamina ganglionaris of Musca and Drosophila

“…Recently, a new morphological approach has been applied to the problem of the functional characterization of synapses: histoautoradiographic techniques with tritium-labelled presumptive transmitter substances have been used for the anatomical localization of their incorporation sites. A highly-specific neuronal uptake (Bloom and Iversen, 1971 ;Lain and Steinman, 1971 ;Ehinger, 1971Ehinger, , 1973Iversen and Bloom, 1972;Kuhar and Aghajanian, 1973;Frontali and Pierantoni, 1973) or glial uptake (Faeder and Salpeter, 1970;Orkand and Kravitz, 1971;Neal and Iversen, 1972) has generally been found.
