“…In our study, mean age of hanging group was 25.69(±7.26, 9-38). One study analyzing the autopsies in geriatric population in the eastern part of Turkey showed that traffic accidents comprised the huge part (80%) of the accident-related deaths, consistent with the literature (2). The most common cause of suicidal attempts in geriatric population was found as hanging (60%) in the same study.…”

This is an interesting finding, but it might be based on the lower mean age of hanging patients.…”

“…A logistic regression with study random effects was used to estimate odds ratios (95% CI), comparing victim age with the social–ecological variables described above, and was also calculated for U.S. and non-U.S. studies (Tables 1 and 2). To control for selection bias in the meta-analysis, we excluded four studies that only included homicide in older adults (Coelho et al, 2010; Collins & Presnell, 2006; Langlois et al, 1995; Timur et al, 2017). Sensitivity analysis revealed variation in the mean proportions for “argument” and “home” variables (ranging between 3 and 18 percentage points) but with no other substantial differences.…”

“…Traffic accidents are important among unnatural death reasons in old-age period (10)(11)(12). In a study that was conducted in Erzurum, Turkey, it was reported that traffic accidents ranked the first (n = 120, 53.80%) among the unnatural deaths in the elderly population (12). In a study that was conducted in Taiwan, it was reported that the second frequent reason of the accidents in the elderly population was traffic accidents (10 (6).…”
