Abstract: Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) of serum proteins is increasingly gaining impact in clinical laboratories. In this report, we evaluate automated capillary zone electrophoresis by Capillarys (Sebia, France). Within-run and between-run imprecision for the five electrophoretic fractions was <2% and <6%, respectively. Data obtained with Capillarys correlated with results obtained with agarose gel electrophoresis and Paragon CZE 2000 (Beckman Coulter, USA). Analysis of serum obtained from patients with inflamm… Show more

“…Human serum and human ascites fluid protein electrophoresis was performed using a Capillarys 2™ CE system (Sebia, Paris, France) that is routinely employed in clinical laboratories [40,41]. Prior to the hydrodynamic injection (4"), 40 µl of serum is automatically diluted 5x in the running buffer (pH 10).…”

“…One of its drawbacks is the potential interference by exogenous nonprotein substances, such as radiopaque agents and antibiotics, which also absorb at this wavelength (1 ). Investigations revealed that the patient had received, 1 h before blood sample collection, ioméprol (Ioméron®), a radiopaque agent known to yield an abnormal peak in the ␤ 1 -globulin fraction.…”

“…Combination of CZE with MS resulted in additional data for discovery of biomarkers and better medical diagnostics [100,192]. Through the analysis of serum proteins, CZE could identify inflammation, nephrotic syndrome, bisalbuminemia, and a 1 -antitrypsin deficiency [193]. Quality control was performed extensively in CZE [194,195].…”

“…Quality control was performed extensively in CZE [194,195]. The method was found stable over 1-year period [195], and showed higher sensitivity (but lower specificity) than gel electrophoresis [193,196]. Conflicting results between CZE and gel electrophoresis, and interferences of some substances including iodinated contrast agent and antibiotics, have also been observed [197].…”
