Interpositional arthroplasty using autogenous costal cartilage graft for temporomandibular joint ankylosis in adults

Auricular cartilage has been used for reconstruction of the nose and larynx for decades and from the 1980s was used also to replace the TM meniscus 23 was used to treat TMJ ankylosis in children with good results 8 , but SANDLER et al 20 reported three failed cases of auricular grafts and unsatisfactory results. The fate of autogenous auricular cartilage grafts in the jaw joints has been investigated by YIH et al 26 and all grafts were found to be viable, some showing a degree of cartilage proliferation.…”
