Australian multi‐unit residential project construction time performance factors

Abstract: Construction time performance (CTP) factors recently identified in work commissioned by the Construction Industry Institute Australia (CIIA) indicate that project team effectiveness significantly influences CTP. Project complexity also was found to significantly contribute to CTP. However, no residential projects were studied in that survey. This paper reports upon CTP research undertaken into Australian multi‐unit residential construction that fills this theory gap. Results indicate that the construction mana… Show more

“…Various researchers support 'environment' factors affecting the project success (Akinsola et al, 1997;Chua et al, 1999;Kaming et al, 1997;Songer and Molenaar, 1997;Walker and Vines, 2000). Akinsola et al (1997) further described 'environment' as all external influences on the construction process, including social, political, and technical systems.…”

“…Previous research on residential construction duration indicates that factors affecting residential building progress mostly derive from three aspects: project cost and type of workload involved, locational features, and team management and project scheduling. Project cost is recognized as the best indicator of construction duration (Bashford et al, 2005; Choudhury and Rajan, 2003; Stoy et al, 2007; Walker and Vines, 2000) as it reflects the project size and quality of the work (Qiao et al, 2019). Mačková and Bašková (2014) apply only project cost in the simple regression to estimate the construction duration.…”
