Auction-Based Resource Allocation for Cooperative Video Transmission Protocols over Wireless Networks

Abstract: Cooperative transmission has been proposed as a novel transmission strategy that takes advantage of broadcast nature of wireless networks, forms virtual MIMO system, and provides diversity gains. In this paper, wireless video transmission protocols are proposed, in which the spectrum resources are first allocated for the source side to broadcast video packets to the relay and destination, and then for the relay side to transmit side information generated from the received packets. The proposed protocols are op… Show more

“…Distributed 3D video coding can be combined with the use of relay nodes enabled with cooperative communications. This idea is presented in [74], where the side information is generated with a 3D wavelet scalable codec and subsequently transmitted directly to the destination. The distributed video coding stream is generated with a transcoding operation at the relay, which transmits the resulting distributed coded video using amplify-and-forward or decode-and-forward cooperative communications.…”

“…The application of the game theory in network resource allocation has been investigated in many works, such as [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] and references therein. Some researchers such as Han et al [3], Chang and Subramanian [5] focus on the cooperative aspects of the game theory and coalition formation techniques for resource allocation. Other researchers in [4,[6][7][8][9] are mainly concentrated on applications of the non-cooperative games for resource assignment.…”

The application of game theory for video applications has been investigated in some references, such as [3,7]. Han et al [3] try to adopt the cooperative games for designing some efficient transmission protocols for enhanced quality video delivery over wireless networks.…”
