Atomic Fe hetero-layered coordination between g-C3N4 and graphene nanomeshes enhances the ORR electrocatalytic performance of zinc–air batteries

Abstract: Hetero-layered iron–nitrogen coordination between g-C3N4 and graphene nanomeshes was developed for superior electrocatalytic activity in the oxygen reduction reaction.

“…Figure e shows a large amount of 3D thin nanosheets on the CNFs accompanied by ample constructed macrospores in Fe‐SAs@NC. The emergence of such flocculent pore structures is advantageous to facilitate electrolyte infiltration during the oxygen reactions . Noticeably, there is no Fe clusters or crystalline particles in the corresponding high‐resolution TEM (HRTEM) image of Fe‐SAs@NC (Figure h) indicating that the Fe atoms could present in the atomic dispersion state.…”

“…Compared with Fe‐NS, the pyridinic N content of Fe/GNS‐1.5 is much higher (Figure S2). Figure f shows the Fe 2p spectrum consisting of six peaks which belong to Fe 2+ 2p 3/2 (710.4 eV), Fe 3+ 2p 3/2 (712.2 eV), Fe 2+ 2p 1/2 (723.0 eV), Fe 3+ 2p 1/2 (725.8 eV) and two satellite peaks, respectively . After long time of acid treatment, the element of Fe still exists (0.4 at%), which suggests that the remaining iron is uniformly doped into carbon skeleton without aggregation according to the XRD results.…”
