Association of lipoprotein(a) excess with early vein graft occlusions in middle-aged men undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery

Abstract: There is an association between high lipoprotein(a) level and vein graft occlusions in middle-aged men during the first year after coronary artery bypass grafting. Use of statins is associated with a lower rate of vein graft occlusion. Electron-beam tomography could be useful for assessing graft occlusions.

“…Причем у 70-80% пациентов, пере-несших периоперационный ИМ, определяются нефунк-ционирующие шунты [6,13]. Существует много факторов, влияющих на проходимость шунтов и анастомозов, боль-шинство системных факторов риска постоянно изучают-ся [4]. Четко дифференцировать влияние техники опера-ции вряд ли представляется возможным.…”

“…Blood LPa concentration >30 mg/dl is associated with rapid atherosclerotic damage to coronary, carotid, peripheral arteries, and autogenous venous bypasses after myocardial revascularization [2,3,10]. At present, there are no medical drugs efficiently decreasing LPa level in human blood, but all LDL apheresis systems can remove LPa due to the presence of apoB 100 in LPa particle.…”

“…The primary reason leading to graft occlusion is the development of thrombosis in the early period following surgery, and subsequent intimal hyperplasia that results in graft failure in the first year following implantation. In addition, stenosis generally occurs in grafts during the development of atherosclerosis more than 1 year after the surgery [1].…”
