Abstract: Background Angiotensin‐converting enzyme (ACE) plays a pivotal role in several pathologies including cancers. The association of insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of the ACE gene with prostate cancer (PC) risk remains controversial. We aimed to investigate for the first time, to our Knowledge, in North Africa the potential relationship between ACE I/D polymorphism with PC susceptibility and clinical outcomes of PC patients. Methods This case‐control study included 143 healthy individuals and 124 patients d… Show more

“…Aung et al [33], in a global ecological study, reported a lower prevalence of the advantageous II genotype among African countries, with an average prevalence of 48 and 9.8% for the DD and II genotypes, respectively. This report concurs with other studies from South Africa and Tunisia that also reported a lower prevalence of the II genotype of 19.3 and 14%, respectively [34, 35]. Although these findings were generated using studies from a few countries—Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and South Africa—which are not representative enough to give a conclusive report about Africa, these countries, except for Nigeria, have the highest COVID-19 cases on the continent (https://covid19.who.int/).…”

“…Next, the full text of the remaining articles was reviewed. Finally, eight eligible literature was identified [10][11][12][16][17][18][19][20], including 817 patients with PCa and 6917 controls. Two of the eight [10,11] reported two different controls, so the two articles contained four studies.…”

“…The objective of this meta-analysis aims to investigate the relationship between ACE I/D gene polymorphism and susceptibility to PCa. In accordance with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles (10 studies) [10][11][12][16][17][18][19][20] were identified in this systematic review. The analysis results determined an association of ACE I/D polymorphism with susceptibility to PCa, especially in the models of the allelic, dominant, recessive, and homozygous genes.…”
