Abstract: Purpose. To correlate optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements with clinical parameters in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 22 patients with IIH and 11 controls. All participants underwent comprehensive ophthalmological examination followed by spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) and standard automated perimetry using the 30–2 program of the Humphrey visual field analyzer. Correlations between ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness and retinal nerve … Show more

“…The present study also revealed that the mean RNFL thickness was 107.84 ± 21.65 µm with mean GCC thickness was 89.94 ± 9.33 µm and mean ONH thickness was 615 ± 189 µm. In agreement with our findings Nogueira et al [14] reported that the mean RNFL thickness was 111.637±24.941 μm with mean GCC thickness was 90.535±9.766 µm. Also, Eren et al [16] reported that the mean RNFL thickness was 127.…”

“…Optic disc swelling or papilledema is caused by poor axoplasmic outflow as a result of elevated intracranial pressure and high perineural tension [13] . However, according to Nogueira et al [14] , the optic disc head was normal in 30 eyes [69.77%], while 25 Regarding baseline RNFL parameters distribution, the current study showed that the mean nasal RNFL was 62.28 ± 5.54, mean temporal was 43.95 ± 12.59, mean superior was 94.15 ± 12.55 and mean inferior was 86. 23 ± 11.46.…”

“…A recent study that used OCT and VF parameters to evaluate visual outcomes found similar rates of poor visual outcomes as our study [21]. Recent evidence has shown that thinning of GCL, a relatively novel ophthalmic biomarker for visual function, often precedes RNFL thinning and VF loss [36] [37]. By de ning poor visual outcome according to RNFL or GCL thickness, we may have in ated the number of patients with poor visual outcome, as some of these patients only had GCL thinning with good vision and no signi cant VF defect.…”
