Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide and obesity as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus are emerging as a global epidemic. Prevention is the basis for addressing cardiovascular disease to reverse this grim scenario, and raising awareness through information can increase the adherence of the general population to changes in lifestyle habits that are fundamental in this context. The information obtained in a basic care, such as a compact and objective anamnesis, blood pressure measurement, and capillary glycemia evaluation, as a parameter for individualized orientations, associated to educational lectures with accessible language, can help to break the barrier between scientific knowledge and the population. The full involvement of health academics in this knowledge transmission process, under the coordination of a professor and researcher, allows the full connection between research, teaching, and extension.
