Assessment of water quality parameters using multivariate analysis for Klang River basin, Malaysia

Abstract: This case study uses several univariate and multivariate statistical techniques to evaluate and interpret a water quality data set obtained from the Klang River basin located within the state of Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The river drains an area of 1,288 km(2), from the steep mountain rainforests of the main Central Range along Peninsular Malaysia to the river mouth in Port Klang, into the Straits of Malacca. Water quality was monitored at 20 stations, nine of which are situ… Show more

“…In other words, P H is a measure of the alkalinity or acidity of water soluble substances [6], [31]. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is defined as the amount of oxygen dissolved in a water body and measures the health of the water and its ability to support a balance aquatic ecosystem [29], [17]. The DO appears as microscopic bubbles of gaseous oxygen which are mixed in water and available to aquatic organisms for respiration [11], [17].…”

“…Chemometric procedures were often used for conducting studies on the quality of natural waters -including lake water [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Most of the works is a study of river waters in the catchment [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33], as well as groundwater [34][35][36].…”
