Assessment of genetic diversity of Typha angustifolia in the development of cattail stands

Abstract: Typha angustifolia has ecological characteristics of clonal growth similar to Phragmites australis. The plant spreads by clonal growth and seed dispersal. In this study, for the three stands which have different settlement age at the Baksilji wetland in Korea, genetic diversity was estimated by random amplification of polymorphic DNA analysis to evaluate the change in genetic diversity of T. angustifolia during stand development in the same population. Stand (ST) 1 was the oldest and ST 4 was the youngest. ST … Show more

“…To study the genetic difference among three populations, we used the RAPD method that has been used for investigating the genetic diversity and structure of populations and that is independent to the former knowledge of their DNA sequence (Williams et al 1990, Newbury and Ford-Lloyd 1993, Beebee and Graham 2008. This method has been used for understanding the formation and maintenance of natural plant populations (Bonnin et al 1996, Min et al 2012, intraspecific phylogenic studies (Kim et al 2008, Ok andYoo 2012), and genetic difference among the varieties or ecotypes (Virk et al 1995, Ray and Roy 2009, Arghavani et al 2010. The aim of this study is to assess the genetic diversity within three C. virosa populations in Korea and the differences among them using RAPD markers and to understand the relationship between the genetic difference and ecotypic differences of .…”

“…However, studies about the genetic diversity of the wetland plants mainly have focused on clonal, perennial species (Piquot et al 1996;Koppitz 1999;Honnay et al 2010;Min et al 2012;Raabová et al 2015). Previous studies on the genetic diversity of P. thunbergii only focused on their spatiotemporal genetic distribution (Konuma and Terauchi 2001;Kim et al 2008).…”
