“…An equilibrium was obtained and characterized for an alternative buffer management that was proposed, called VLRED. We note that in contrast to [3], since we also include in the utility of CBR traffic a penalty for losses (which is supported by studies of voice quality in packet-based telephony [4]), we do obtain an equilibrium when using RED. For other related papers, see for instance [5] (in which a priority game is considered for competing connections sharing a drop-tail buffer), [6] as well as the survey [7].…”

“…If echo is properly controlled (which we can safely assume in modern day applications), the term I d remains practically constant for a one-way delay below 150 ms. If this delay (also termed interactivity bound) is exceeded, I d increases (and R decreases) by about 1 point on the R-scale per 10 ms additional delay [10]. The term I e includes the effect of using a low bit rate codec and the impact of packet loss.…”

“…Ie includes the distortion caused by low bit rate codec operation as well as the effect of packet loss (both network and late loss). Due to its ease of deployment, many other researchers such as [20] [21] and [18] have adopted it for assessing speech quality.…”
