Assessing the accumulated stickiness magnitude from fabric–skin friction: effect of wetness level of various fabrics

Abstract: Increasing skin wetness tends to increase fabric–skin adhesion and friction, resulting in wear discomfort or skin injuries. Here, the magnitude estimation approach was used to assess the stickiness sensation perceived in fabrics. Seven fabric types were wetted by putting onto wet ‘skin’ surface and dried for different durations to achieve different wetness levels, simulating wearing conditions during the recovery period after sweating. Results showed that the relationship between magnitude estimates of stickin… Show more

“…Both human and animals skins [459] were adopted, including soft skins, hard scales [460,461], and heads [462,463]. Some of the friction studies adopted an artificially chosen hard counterface such as a metallic or glass subject, while in other studies fabrics were often used [464]. Most studies in skin tribology adopted experimental approaches, while only a few focused on theoretical investigations [465,466].…”

“…With increasing PMI, it could be observed with the naked eye that the degree of corneal folds increased as well, which was reflected in the upward and downward trends associated with CON and COR values, respectively. ASM and HOM [32–35] mainly reflect the thickness or roughness of a single texture of image. They are good indicators for expressing a single texture feature and may not be suitable for reflecting the changes of the overall folds of postmortem corneal pupil region images, so the correlation with PMI is poor.…”
