RESUMOO câncer de mama é a neoplasia mais frequente entre as mulheres, apresentando alta taxa de mortalidade nos países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento. Nesse contexto, o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi analisar a percepção de mulheres atendidas pela Estratégia Saúde da Família em Maringá, Paraná, referente à detecção precoce do câncer de mama. Trata-se de um estudo transversal realizado com mulheres cadastradas nesse programa. Na análise das informações foi usada a estatística descritiva, por meio da distribuição de frequência simples e relativa. A amostra foi composta em grande parte por mulheres com idade igual ou superior a 55 anos (40,33%). Pelo menos um fator de risco foi apontado pela maioria das entrevistadas, sendo o histórico familiar o mais destacado. No quesito percepção da mulher sobre os métodos de detecção precoce do câncer de mama, predominou a mamografia, sendo que mais de 70% afirmaram ter realizado o exame pela menos uma vez. Concluiu-se que estudar os fatores de risco, bem como avaliar os motivos pelos quais as mulheres não realizam os exames de prevenção, é fundamental, pois favorece a detecção precoce e a melhor utilização dos recursos disponibilizados pelos programas de saúde, permitindo não só aumentar o conhecimento epidemiológico dessa neoplasia, como também identificar mulheres que poderiam beneficiar-se com um rastreamento diferenciado. ABSTRACTBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with high mortality rates in developed and developing countries. In this context, the objective of this research was to analyze the perception of women attended by the Family Health Strategy´s program in Maringa, Parana, referring to the early detection of breast cancer. This is a cross-sectional study carried out in women enrolled in that program. In the analysis of the information was used descriptive statistics, through the distribution of simple and relative frequency. The sample was composed largely of women aged over 55 years (40.33%). At least one risk factor was pointed out by most of the interviewees, and the family history was the most prominent. On the issue of perception of women about early detection methods of breast cancer, mammography was the most cited, and over 70% affirmed that had conducted the examination for once. It was concluded that studying the risk factors and to assess the reasons why women do not realize the tests of prevention is fundamental, since it favors early detection and the best use of resources available for health programs, allowing not only increase the epidemiology knowledge of this cancer, but also identify women who might benefit from a different trace.
