Artificial Noise: Transmission Optimization in Multi-Input Single-Output Wiretap Channels

Abstract: We analyze and optimize the secrecy performance of artificial noise (AN) in multi-input single-output wiretap channels with multiple antennas at the transmitter and a single antenna at the receiver and the eavesdropper. We consider two transmission schemes: 1) an on-off transmission scheme with a constant secrecy rate for all transmission periods, and 2) an adaptive transmission scheme with a varying secrecy rate during each transmission period. For the on-off transmission scheme, an easy-to-compute expression… Show more

“…in the PHY-layer security literature under the name of AN [3]- [6] or cooperative jamming [7]. In [4], [5], the problem of secure communication with multi-antenna transmission in fading channels was investigated. The source node simultaneously transmits an information bearing signal to the intended destination node and AN signals to confuse the eavesdropping node.…”

“…Therefore, the system can also be regarded as a multipleinput-single-output (MISO) wiretap channel, where the eavesdropper attempts to intercept messages from one specific data stream. Different from issues of the MISO wiretap channel in [6,[47][48][49], we focus on the impact of the SIC order on the individual secrecy performance (i.e., secrecy performance of each data stream in this equivalent MISO wiretap channel model).…”
