Artificial Intelligence Models for Zoonotic Pathogens: A Survey

Abstract: Zoonotic diseases or zoonoses are infections due to the natural transmission of pathogens between species (animals and humans). More than 70% of emerging infectious diseases are attributed to animal origin. Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have been used for studying zoonotic pathogens and the factors that contribute to their spread. The aim of this literature survey is to synthesize and analyze machine learning, and deep learning approaches applied to study zoonotic diseases to understand predictive models… Show more

“…In this way, feature extraction helps in identifying and extracting relevant attributes or features from the data that are likely to be informative for disease detection. Feature selection helps in reducing the dimensionality of the data, making the AI model more efficient and accurate (Pillai et al, 2022).…”

“…Bacterial agents are predominant among the food-borne pathogens from animal sources; for example, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli (E. coli) , and Listeria monocytogenes [ 3 , 4 ]. Food animals serve as reservoirs of zoonotic pathogens, hence crucial in transmitting infection from food sources [ 1 ].…”
