Mixed, Augmented and Virtual, Reality Applied to the Teaching of Mathematics for Architects

This paper examines the possibilities of Mixed Reality, the combination of two emerging technologies—Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality—in university education. For this purpose, an object was elaborated in Mixed Reality that underwent the evaluation of 44 first-year students from the degree in architecture who were enrolled in the subject “Mathematical Foundations for Architecture.” The instrument utilized was based on the TAM model, which analyzes the degree of acceptance of the technology used. The analysis of the responses provided by students supported the 23 hypotheses formulated in this study. It was found that MR significantly influences the perceived usefulness and ease of use. The results imply that MR utilization has positive effects on the mathematical teaching-learning processes in architecture from the students’ perception of their mastery of technology. It becomes necessary to offer support to those university teachers who promote the use of active MR-based methodologies in classrooms.

Globalisation has a significant influence on the world of education. The emergence of technology supports the implementation of services in providing school financial accountability through a digital payment information system. Therefore, this research aims to review the effectiveness and efficiency of the application of SIPS-MUDA in providing payment information using a case study with a mixed-method approach. Data was collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and surveys. Meanwhile, the data were analysed using John Cresswell's model analysis technique. The results showed that the school payment information system effectively controlled misinformation and omission of human error factors related to the data. A survey of 46 parents also indicated that more than 80% agreed on the effectiveness and efficiency of the implementation of SIPS-MUDA. This was based on the validity of payment information, task completion, time behaviour, and customer satisfaction. In conclusion, the application of SIPS-MUDA can be categorised as very effective in providing school payment information services. Virtual accounts are a recommendation for manual input constraints, and schools can utilise bank CSR funds in cooperation.

Access to information has never been easier, thanks to the rapid development of the internet and communication technologies, and the ubiquity of smartphones and other internet-enabled devices. In traditional classroom learning, teachers provide students with various sources of information that are known to be reliable. Nowadays, especially in a post-pandemic era, students increasingly rely on a host of resources available on the internet. Exposure to vast amounts of scattered information could adversely affect students’ learning process. Meanwhile, pedagogical approaches, classroom learning practices, and student learning activities have evolved significantly to cope with contemporary challenges. This study reviews the current learning practices and the technological interventions in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape. In particular, the challenges when integrating technology into higher education are considered in detail and ways put forward for doing so in that context.
