Arginine vasotocin receptor binding in the hen uterus (shell gland) before and after oviposition
Abstract: The binding affinity and capacity of arginine vasotocin (AVT) receptor in the hen uterus changed during a period before and after oviposition. Three hours before oviposition, the binding capacity of the AVT receptor increased. An injection of prostaglandin (PG) F2 alpha caused an increase in the AVT receptor Bmax in the uterus, and indomethacin blocked the normal rise in the AVT receptor Bmax and PGF content prior to oviposition. However, just prior to oviposition, the binding affinity increased with a decreas… Show more

“…It has been reported that an injection of PGF 2α increases the B max value of the uterine AVT receptor and that the B max of the AVT receptor increases 3 h before oviposition and 2 h after oviposition (Takahashi et al, 1994). These 2 increases in the binding capacity of the AVT receptor are consistent with the decreases in the PGF 2α receptor B max found in the present study.…”

“…Such a decrease in the B max value of the receptor may be caused by downregulation (Wiley et al, 1991;Boden et al, 1994) of the hormonal action. The content of uterine PGF increased before times of decrease in B max values of the uterine PGF 2α receptor (i.e., 6 h before oviposition; Takahashi et al, 1994;2004) and at the time of oviposition (Takahashi et al, 2004). Therefore, the decrease in B max of the PGF 2α receptor found in the present study may have been caused by increases in uterine PGF.…”

“…When cANG II was injected into nonlaying hens, the binding affinity of the ANG II receptor in the neurohypophysis was increased with a decrease in the binding capacity (Table 2). Such changes in the binding affinity and capacity of the receptor are also reported in the AVT receptor of the uterus (Takahashi et al, 1994a) and in the cLHRH-I receptor of the pituitary in hens. The increase in the binding affinity and the decrease in the binding capacity observed 15 min before oviposition may suggest that ANG II acts on the neurohypophysis at this time.…”

“…The increase in the binding affinity of the AVT receptor occurs during the restlessness behavior (i.e., approximately 13 min before oviposition in this experiment). The cause of the increase in the binding affinity of the uterine AVT receptor may be due to the effect of P 4 as reported earlier (Takahashi et al, 1994b). But, it may be not only by P 4 but also by MT, because the binding affinity of the MT receptor in the uterus increased earlier than the increase in that of AVT receptor (Takahashi and Kawashima, 2008), and the binding affinity of the AVT receptor in the uterus was increased by MT (Figure 1).…”

“…The binding affinity of the uterine MT receptor increases 30 min before oviposition (Takahashi and Kawashima, 2008). The binding affinity of the AVT receptor in the uterus also increases at a close time of oviposition (Takahashi et al, 1994b), but that time is different from the time of increasing in the MT receptor (Takahashi and Kawashima, 2008). The increase in the binding affinity of the AVT receptor occurs during the restlessness behavior (i.e., approximately 13 min before oviposition in this experiment).…”
