“…Karnataka is largest areca nut producing state in India, which has a share of around 50% of the whole areca production in the country. Chemically treated areca bre reinforced epoxy composite provides better impact properties [26]. Physio-mechanical properties of hybrid betel nut (areca catechu) short bre/seaweed polypropylene composite has been studied previously.…”

“…Research findings on acrylated and acrylonitrile grafted natural fibers and its influence toward the performance on NFPCs is discussed below. [278][279][280][281][282][283][284][285][286][287][288][289][290] Acrylic acid treated rattan fibers perform efficiently than alkaline and raw fibers with the best tensile strength 360.71 MPa and possess higher thermal stability with a degradation in the range of 400-500 °C. [278] Acrylic acid proves to be an ideal treatment for phoenix sp.…”

“…Such an excellent flexural strength could be due to removal of wax, lignin, and hemicelluloses and -OH groups replaced with ester groups inducing plasticizing effect in areca fibers. [290] 4.1.9. Permanganate Treatment Permanganate treatment of natural fibers is carried out by immersion of alkaline pre-treated plant fibers in potassium permanganate (KMnO 4 ) and different concentrations of acetone solution.…”

“…The hydroxyl group present in the filler reacted with the sodium hydroxide during alkali treatment. The partial removal of lignin and hemi-cellulose of the natural filler embedded in the rubber matrix resulted in the low resistance to stretching during tensile deformation, improving the elongation at break of the composites (Dhanalakshmi et al 2015). Figures 6 and 7 show that moduli at 100% elongation (M100) and 300% elongation (M300) were lower for the NR composites with treated PKS than those of the untreated PKS/NR composites.…”
