Applications of THz Spectral Imaging in the Detection of Agricultural Products

Abstract: Agricultural products need to be inspected for quality and safety, and the issue of safety of agricultural products caused by quality is frequently investigated. Safety testing should be carried out before agricultural products are consumed. The existing technologies for inspecting agricultural products are time-consuming and require complex operation, and there is motivation to develop a rapid, safe, and non-destructive inspection technology. In recent years, with the continuous progress of THz technology, TH… Show more

“…These review papers are commonly discussing the usage of analytical techniques and consider them as revolutionary, mostly for being nondestructive Techniques in food analysis, where the key word “nondestructive” was stated plainly in these works [ 62 , 63 , 64 , 76 , 82 , 88 , 89 , 100 , 112 ]. These techniques allow for the assessment of crop-based food safety without structural damage.…”

“…It has remarkable features of molecular fingerprint, low energy, and strong penetration 7 . At present, THz technology has been widely used in agricultural product analysis 8,9 , biomedicine 10 , safety evaluation 11 , metamaterials 12 , and other fields 13 . THz imaging technology is based on THz time-domain spectroscopy.…”

“…The development of the 5G era witnesses the rapid reading and transmission speeds of portable smartphones. The maximum upstream and downstream speeds exceed 100 Mbit/s, , which enables real-time transmission of big data. Currently, most low-concentration detections still use spectrometers, which require professional testers to operate , and are big in size and not convenient to carry around . Moreover, it requires some of the liquid with low concentration to be concentrated by evaporation first to improve its detection sensitivity, which is a disadvantage for situations that cannot sample more.…”

Especially for blood and human tissue fluid, it is natural to take as little as possible, for example just one drop.…”
