This project explores some of the ways interactive technology has been used in education to increase student engagement, and suggests how novel rendering and interaction technologies can be used in learning environments to increase student engagement. With the utilization of the Unity game engine, Near Field Communication using an Arduino, and Vuforia image recognition software, a 3D platform was created for a technology called the Looking Glass, which adapts 3D models to appear as 3D holograms. The idea behind the platform was to suggest ways in which technology can be used to create more engaging content in an educational setting, in order to combat the constant struggle many students have with diverting their attention away from their distracting smartphones. In the end, the goal is to suggest that in battle against distractions in a classroom, engaging content prevails over technology confiscation.

Increased Sensory Inputs Through Productive Learning Tasks To Enhance The Short-Term Memory Capacity: An Alternative To Nootropics

Nootropics are drugs that have been used as cognitive enhancers that many take to improve memory and mental alertness. However, taking any type of drug is likely to be associated with some risk either physiologically or psychologically. This study offers an alternative approach to this excess reliance on medication, that is the use of increased sensory inputs through productive skills to enhance the short-term memory capacity. There are times when a short attention span and an ineffective retention ability are caused by unengaging instructional approaches, not physiological factors.An experimental study was conducted among 50 high school students whose ability to remember a set of 10 distinct numbers was tested in two different settings: receptive learning through auditory and visual stimuli and productive learning through auditory and kinesthetic stimuli. The results showed that by incorporating the productive skills (i.e., speaking and writing), students’ short-term memory of the numeric informationwas improved significantly at the statistical level of 95%. It therefore suggests that before deciding to take any medication, the first attempt to be made to help students concentrate more on learning and enhance their memory capacity is to intensify sensory inputs through the productive skills, rather than leaving them exposed only to the receptive tasks.

The simulation is a time-based representation of a real-world given system's performance. This study aims to simulate and analyse patient waiting time in the outpatient department at a public clinic in Johor. A quantitative approach was used in this study. The data collection method was observation. The patients' waiting time at the health clinic will be observed. The data collection will be held for ten days. There have 400 respondents who participated in the study. Arena Software analysed the collected data on waiting time from observation. There were two categories of outpatients in that queue modelling: express and regular. Patients that receive express care are pregnant, old, and disabled. Whereas healthy and young patients were classified as regular patients. The data obtained from the simulation and the observation will be compared to determine whether it satisfies the verification and validation requirements.
