“…Vorapalawut et al 62 developed a method by which Fe, Ni, S and V distribution in various fractions of crude oils could be characterized using a combination of thin layer chromatography (TLC) and LA-ICP-MS. Crude oils and their fractions (saturated, aromatic, resin and asphaltene) were placed on an activated silica gel plate and separated using a selection of different solvents. Each band of material was then placed on a microscope slide and analysed using LA-SF-ICP-MS. Optimization of the LA process indicated that a scan process of 80 mm s À1 , a laser energy of 50% (0.45 mJ) and a spot size of 200 mm were optimal.…”
