Application of analytical hierarchy process (AHP) in prioritizing HAZOP analysis for pilot plant

Abstract: <p>Injuries, accidents or even fatalities while working in pilot plant are reported worldwide. The implementation of process hazards analysis (PHA) in pilot plant is expected to further reduce the risks of accidents. Hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis is one of the most widely used methods for PHA. Generally, the outcome of HAZOP analysis could results in identifying large number of hazards thus poses a challenge for assessors to take actions in dealing with all the hazards. The common practice in p… Show more

“…AHP is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methodology based on a hierarchical structure. Its hierarchical and systematic features make it a popular technique to solve MCDM problems; with AHP successfully implemented in various fields ranging from education (Othman et al 2012), chemical process assessment (Abdul Aziz et al 2017) and even traffic accidents causation (Xi et al 2016). The method provides a mathematical means to process the subjective and personal preferences of individuals or groups in making a decision.…”

“…For instance, Fuzzy theory has been used to evaluate the importance of parameters (Pan et al 2012, Gao andWang 2018), to improve the risk matrix (Ahn and Chang 2016;Fuentes-Bargues et al 2016;Markowski and Siuta 2018),and to assess the frequency factor (F) (HU et al 2009;Wei et al 2009). In addition, AHP has been used for defining weight of parameters and deviations (Kang et al 2015, Othman et al 2016, Aziz et al 2017) and optimal allocation of HAZOP resources (Kang et al 2015).…”
