Apo B gene haplotype is associated with lipid profile of higher risk for coronary heart disease in Caucasian Brazilian men

Abstract: We investigated using haplotype analysis whether genetic variation of the apo B gene is associated with a higher risk for coronary heart disease in a Brazilian population. Ins/Del, XbaI, and EcoRI polymorphic sites of the apolipoprotein B (apo B) gene were studied in 67 patients with CHD and in 67 age‐matched healthy individuals selected from a population of Brazilians. The allelic frequency of apo B polymorphisms did not differ between the CHD patients and controls. However, a significant linkage disequilibri… Show more

“…In the present study, as well as in a previous investigation (21), the Xba I and SP Ins/Del APOB polymorphisms were found to be associated with serum lipid levels in Brazilian populations of European descent. The Xba I polymorphism was also reported to be associated with CAD in Brazilians (23).…”

“…Linkage disequilibrium was observed between the APOB Xba I and SP Ins/Del polymorphisms in both samples (CAD patients D' = 0.70, p < 0.0001; controls D' = 0.72, p < 0.0001). As in previous studies (21, 22), the Xba I+ allele is linked to the SP Del allele.…”
