Abstract: An overall research interest in Aphidiine parasitoids of aphids has increased all over the world. Aphid pest problems and ecological aspects of their control undoubtedly contributed positively to this state. Searches for potentially useful biological control agents in the pest origin center frequently have demonstrated relatively poor knowledge in many areas and the same has been determined in subsequent research efforts targeting parasitoid release and establishment. These studies have also demonstrated a nee… Show more

“…However, this method severely restricts the understanding of the behavior of these natural enemies in the field. Many studies conducted in Brazil have shown that parasitized aphids (mummies) appeared during the tillering stage (Alves et al 2005, Machado andSantos 2013), usually parasitized by polyphagous parasitoids (Starý et al 2007). So, it is possible that this earlier occurrence and the broad spectrum of hosts, was the main reason that biological control was quite successful.…”

“…Species of Aphidius are considered biological control agents of aphids in Brazilian cereal crops (Starý et al 2007). These species were imported by Brazilian research institutes in a classical biological control program during the last century, in 1970s and 1980s (Gassen & Tambasco 1983).…”

“…(Rehman & Powell 2010). The absence of Lysiphlebus testaceipes (Cresson, 1880) (Hymenoptera, Aphidiidae) is notable because it is considered one of the most common parasitoids of aphids in the tribe Aphidini (Aphis, Rhopalosiphum and Schizaphis) (Starý et al 2007). The absence of specialized parasitoids of the Macrosiphini tribe is explained by the small population of S. avenae and M. dirhodum species.…”
