Abstract: SummaryAntiviral drug resistance is an increasing concern in immunocompromised patient populations, where ongoing viral replication and prolonged drug exposure lead to the selection of resistant strains. Rapid diagnosis of resistance can be made by associating characteristic viral mutations with resistance to various drugs as determined by phenotypic assays. Management of drug resistance includes optimization of host factors and drug delivery, selection of alternative therapies based on knowledge of mechanisms… Show more

“…This resistance is developed both in vitro and in vivo, and it is very significant in immunocompromised patients. 10,40 Therefore, new, potent, and selective antiviral agents are necessary to provide alternative HSV-1 treatment choices, with (29) and (30) representing attractive candidates for development as new antivirals. The structural relatedness of (29) and (30) suggests that such structure scaffolds may be of interest for further synthesis and SAR investigations.…”

“…Current chemotherapeutic antiviral drugs have been characterized as having in many cases limited clinical efficacy, resistance and toxic side effects (Strasfeld and Chou, 2010). Therefore, it is necessary to identify and develop Fig.…”

“…Despite the existence of resistance mechanisms that are specific to some classes of microbes/drugs, resistance mechanisms that are common among all microbes and many chemotherapeutic agents exist (Borst and Ouellette, 1995; Viveiros et al, 2005; Kanafani and Perfect, 2008; Strasfeld and Sunwen, 2010; Akhdar et al, 2012; Li et al, 2016). …”

“…The emergence of drug-resistant mutants has received the world's attention to develop new antivirals with better drug resistance and pharmacokinetic profiles [1][2][3]. In recent years, the research on the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS remain a challenging endeavor for researchers.…”

“…Current treatment options for such resistant infections are challenging, because of a few alternate drugs which are potent. Furthermore the second line of therapies is associated with modest potencies, toxicity, and lack of bioavailability [3, 4]. …”
