Antioxidative and antiinflammatory potential of different functional drink concepts in vitro

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to investigate the antioxidative effects of three different functional drink concepts especially designed to improve the body's performance and function and to possess high antioxidant activities. The concepts based on the mixture of various plant ingredients were: (1) eQ - equalize your nutrient balance, brain line [acerola-dragon fruit], (2) eQ - equalize your nutrient balance, beauty line [honey-pepper] and (3) Let's get red [intense]. By using a cell-based test assay, the s… Show more

“…The plant is being increasingly cultivated because of the reports highlighting promising medicinal uses of the plant (Dartsch, Kler, & Kriesl, 2009; Luo, Cai, Peng, Liu, & Yang, 2014). Pharmacologically active constituents are found in fruits and flowers of the plant (Dartsch et al., 2009; Yi, Wu, Wang, Ye, & Zhang, 2011). This review mainly focuses on the fruit of Hylocereus .…”

“…Also, it had been proved that M. glabra L. exhibited important biological activities; for instance, acetylcholinesterase inhibition (Morais et al, 2013), antigenotoxic (Nunes Rda et al, 2013), antipyretic (Araújo et al, 2004), cytotoxic against tumor cell lines (Düsman et al, 2012), antimicrobial (Delva, 2012), antihyperglycemic (Hanamura et al, 2014), antifungal (Caceres et al, 1993). Several reports confirmed the existence of strong antioxidant (Nunes Rda et al, 2011;Singh et al, 2012), anti-inflammatory (Dartsch et al, 2009), free radical scavenging (Hanamura et al, 2005), and subsequently hepatoprotective (Arul Mary Luveena, 2009) bioactive metabolites in its fruit.…”
