Antioxidant potential of the phenolic fraction of Stryphnodendron rotundifolium Mart. from encapsulation in niosomes

Abstract

The encapsulation of isolated compounds and fractions in niosomes favors the increase of the biological response even in low concentrations, considering that lipidic vesicles can be the alternative to the use of substances that have biological activity, but present high toxicity. Based on this, this work sought the development of niosomes containing a fraction rich in phenolic compounds obtained from the barks of Stryphnodendron rotundifolium Mart., In order to evaluate its antioxidant activity by different mechanisms of action and to compare them to the activity of the fraction alone. The niosomes were obtained by the lipidic film hydration method and the following physicochemical characteristics were evaluated: size, PDI, zeta potential and encapsulation efficiency. These analyzes were performed for a period of three months in order to evaluate the stability of the vesicle. The antioxidant tests performed were ABTS •+ , Fe 2+ Chelating Agent, Deoxyribose. The niosomes obtained mean size of 84.07nm, PDI of 0.2, zeta potential of-50mV and encapsulation efficiency of 60 %. The antioxidant results showed efficiency of the sample for all evaluated antioxidant mechanisms, indicating that the phenolic fraction is more efficient when encapsulated in niosomes.
