Antioxidant and Antigenotoxic Potential of Infundibulicybe geotropa Mushroom Collected from Northwestern Turkey

Abstract: Infundibulicybe geotropa (Bull.) Harmaja is an edible mushroom found in Bolu province in northwestern Turkey. The chemical composition and bioactivity of these mushrooms has not been previously investigated. We examined the phenolic composition, elemental content, and antioxidant and antigenotoxic effects of methanol extracts of fruiting bodies. The phenolic compounds in the fungal samples were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and element content was determined using atomic absor… Show more

“…As shown in Table 2, the TAS value of the mushroom ethanol extract was 3.410 ± 0.099 mmol/L. The TAS value reported in this study is much higher than the TAS value reported in other mushroom extracts: Fomitopsis pinicola, Laetiporus sulphureus, Infundibulicybe geotropa and Cerioporus varius was 1.44, 2.195, 1.854 and 2.312 mmol/L respectively (Sevindik et al 2017(Sevindik et al , 2018(Sevindik et al , 2020Sevindik 2019). This may be due to the greater phenolic content of the mushroom extract under investigation.…”

“…The TOS value of O. asterosperma ethanol extract was 7.548 ± 0.147 μmol/L. This was much lower compared to the TOS value reported for F. pinicola, I. geotropa and C. varius (14.21, 30.38 and14.36, respectively), but higher than L. sulphureus , (1.303 μmol/L) (Sevindik et al 2017 , 2018 , 2020 ; Sevindik 2019 ). Differences between mushroom TOS values may be attributed to the different methodologies used by different research groups at different times and the different species of mushroom collected in different locations.…”

“…They are one of the oldest living things on the planet that existed on Earth for millions of years. Recently, the resistance of bacteria to synthetic antibiotics has become a global problem [47]. For this reason, researchers have considered the use of natural products such as medicinal plants for the production of new antibiotic drugs [48].…”

“…The discovery of new antimicrobial agents from plants has been increasing in recent years. Especially the insufficiency of synthetic drugs directed the researchers to natural materials (Sevindik et al, 2020). The discovery of new antimicrobial sources has become imperative due to increased microbial resistance and increasing diseases of microorganism origin.…”
