Antinociceptive and anti-ulcerogenic activities of the ethanolic extract of Annona muricata leaf

Abstract: Ethanolic extract of Annona muricata L., Annonaceae, leaf (AML) was used to investigate its antinociceptive and anti-ulcerogenic activities and the involvement of the mechanism of ethanolic leaves extract of AML in various animal models. Antinociceptive activity of AML extract was done using acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing in mice, formalin test in rats and hot plate test in mice. Furthermore, the antiulcerogenic effect of AML extract was studied in ethanol-induced ulcer model in rats, ethanol-induced g… Show more

“…There were consistent results demonstrating the antinociceptive ( n = 2) effect of A. muricata in a rats and mice model using the ethanolic leaf extract at a dose range of 10–400 mg/kg. Chemopreventive effects of A. muricata were also demonstrated across four studies utilising mice model, with ethanolic and methanolic leaf extracts at a dose range of 30–400 mg/kg.…”

“…Annona muricata is an evidently beneficial plant known for its diverse biological activities as antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticancerous, noniceptive and others as reviewed by Arthur et al The anti-inflammatory effect of both the aqueous and ethanolic leaves extracts was shown by many references [27][28][29][30].…”

“…PGs play a significantprotective role in the stomach by stimulating the synthesis and secretion of mucus and bicarbonate, increasing mucosal blood flow and promoting epithelial proliferation. The major mechanism via NSAIDs cause ulcers is the inhibition of PGs by the inhibition of COX, which isa key enzyme in the bio-synthesis of PGs (Hamid et al, 2012). So to avoid all these adverse reactions of the drugs, herbal remedies should be given to the ulcer patient to cure the ulcer.…”
