The various complications related to diabetes are due to the alteration in plasma components and functional activity of blood cells, hence the search for preventive remedies that would ameliorate the clinical condition of patients is a relevant problem today. The main aim of the present study was to examine the antidiabetic potency and antioxidant effects of loganic acid (LA) in blood of diabetic rats. LA showed a restoration of balance between functioning of antioxidant defense system and oxidative stress in leukocytes without notable effects on blood glucose levels when administered orally to rats (20 mg/kg b.w./day) for 14 days. LA ameliorated antioxidant status in leukocytes, as indicated by increasing the content of reduced glutathione and activities of catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase along with decreasing levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species. In addition, we observed the ability of LA to protect against formation and accumulation of glycation and oxidation protein products and malondialdehyde derivates in plasma. Therefore, LA showed antioxidant properties that may have beneficial effects under diabetes. Such results may represent LA as one of the plant components in the development of new drugs that will correct metabolic and functional disorders in leukocytes under diabetes.

Termitornyces albuminosus is a kind of traditional Chinese edible fungus rich in nutrients and medicinal ingredients, and it has anti-oxidative, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the hypoglycemic and nephroprotective effects of polysaccharides separated from T. albuminosus (PTA) have not been reported. The properties of PTA were analyzed in a BKS.Cg-Dock7m +/+ Leprdb/JNju (db/db) mouse model of diabetes. After the administration of PTA for eight weeks, the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities of PTA in the db/db mice were assessed. The results of a cytokine array combined with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay confirmed the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of PTA. An eight-week administration of PTA caused hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic functioning, as indicated by suppressed plasma glucose levels, as well as the modulation of several cytokines related to glycometabolism, in the sera and kidneys of the mice. PTA treatment also had a protective effect on renal function, restoring renal structures and regulating potential indicators of nephropathy. In the kidneys of the db/db mice, PTA treatment reduced the activation of protein kinase B, the inhibitor of κB kinase alpha and beta, and the inhibitor of κB alpha and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). We establish the hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, and anti-diabetic nephropathy effects of PTA, and we find that the renal protection effects of PTA may be related to anti-inflammatory activity via the regulation of NF-κB signaling.

Antosiyanince zengin kiraz grubu kırmızı meyveler, düşük kalorili olmalarının yanı sıra lif, C vitamini, polifenoller, karotenoidler ve potasyum gibi bazı mineraller dahil olmak üzere yüksek miktarda biyoaktif bileşene sahiptir ve bu nedenle antioksidan kapasiteleri yüksektir. Türkiye toplam meyve üretiminde dünyada dördüncü, kiraz üretiminde birinci ve vişne üretiminde üçüncü sırada yer almaktadır. Üretimi oldukça yüksek olan ve sağlığı olumlu yönde etkileyerek diyabet, kardiyovasküler hastalıklar, hipertansiyon, obezite ve yağlı karaciğer hastalığı gibi hastalıkların risklerini ve semptomlarını azalttığı düşünülen bu meyvelere olan ilginin ülkemizde arttırılması önemlidir. Bu derlemenin amacı, ülkemizde yetiştiriciliği yüksek ve dünya sıralamasında önemli bir yerde olan, doğada doğal olarak bulunan en güçlü antioksidan bileşik olan antosiyanince zengin kiraz grubundan olan kiraz, vişne ve kızılcık kırmızı meyvelerinin insan sağlığı üzerine etkilerini inceleyen klinik çalışmaları değerlendirmektir. Bu amaçla Dergipark, PubMed ve Google Scholar veri tabanlarında literatür taraması yapılmış ve kiraz grubu kırmızı meyvelerin insan sağlığı üzerine etkinliğini değerlendiren toplam 27 uluslararası klinik çalışma derlemeye dahil edilmiştir. Türkiye'de yapılmış bir klinik çalışmaya rastlanmamıştır.
