Antibiotic prophylaxis for hernia repair

Abstract

Based on the results of this meta-analysis, there was no clear evidence that routine administration of antibiotic prophylaxis for elective inguinal hernia repair reduced infection rates.

However, prophylactic administration of antibiotics is not recommended for such an operation [23,24]. Thus, application of preventative antibiotics was irrational in this case.…”
